Rhinoplasty surgery, also known as a nose job, enhances the cosmetic appearance and functionality of the nose.

Nose surgery (nose job) is one of the most commonly performed cosmetic surgical procedures.
Rhinoplasty is done for two reasons; cosmetic improvement of the nose and functional improvement of the breathing of the nose. Rhinoplasty surgery can reduce or increase the size of the nose. Bumps can be removed and the tip refined. The span of the nostrils may be reduced as well as the overall shape of the nose and nasal tip. I have been performing Rhinoplasty surgery in New York for over 20 years and I possess the necessary skill and expertise for this complicated operation, allowing me to achieve the best possible result.

RHINOPLASTY CONSULTATION

The consultation process (plan to spend at least one hour), includes an in-depth discussion about your desires with regard to size, shape and dimensions of your nose after Rhinoplasty surgery. If there are issues regarding a deviated septum, and you are having difficulty breathing through your nose, this can be addressed also. It is the surgeon’s task to explain all aspects of the operation, the pros and cons, and most importantly, the concept of realistic expectations with regard to your postoperative result. Sometimes health insurance covers the costs for part of this surgery, and photos and other medical information must be obtained and submitted to your insurance carrier to obtain pre-authorization. My staff will submit that information and acquire the authorization, and photos and such will be taken during the initial consultation. I prefer to meet a second time prior to surgery to assure complete understanding of the desires from Rhinoplasty surgery.

CANDIDATES FOR A NOSE JOB PROCEDURE

If you have concerns about the size or shape of your nose, and/or a deviated nasal septum is causing difficulty breathing through your nose, causing medical problems described above, you may be a candidate Rhinoplasty surgery.

This type of surgery can enhance your appearance and improve your overall self confidence and self-esteem. The best candidates for Rhinoplasty Surgery are healthy individuals who are realistic about what the surgery can afford after a complete consultation. Rhinoplasty surgery can be performed for various nasal problems in men or women.

RHINOPLASTY PROCEDURE AND TECHNIQUES

There are various techniques employed for Rhinoplasty surgery, and I am adept at all of them.
There are usually 2 approaches to Rhinoplasty surgery, open or closed. The open approach leaves a very small scar below the nasal tip, which fades nicely, but allows better visualization to sculpt the nose. The closed approach leaves all scars inside the nose, and is quite serviceable for certain individuals. Swelling lasts a bit longer from the open approach compared to the closed, but a better choice for the more complicated cases. It is sometimes necessary to fracture or break the nose during the operation, but healing is quick.

Internally, the nasal septum, or wall between the two nostrils, can be altered to improve breathing. Also, it is sometimes necessary to change internal structures such as turbinates (the humidifier of the nose) or nasal polyps which are small growths within the nose. Alteration of these structures can improve nasal airway breathing.

If you choose an outpatient setting, instead of the hospital, then the Rhinoplasty surgery is performed in my state of the art, fully certified operative suite in my office located on the Upper East Side in New York. Depending on the procedure, I utilize either general anesthesia, or local anesthesia with sedation, administered by one of our experienced, board certified anesthesiologists.

RECOVERING FROM A NOSE JOB PROCEDURE

Recovery after surgery takes 1-2 hours, with my RN at your side at all times. For your safety, I require that a friend, family member or private duty nurse accompany you home and spend at least one night with you. You will be given a follow-up appointment with me in 1-3 days. You may have nasal packing and/or a small splint on top of your nose, but they are removed 2-7 days after surgery.

Most of my patients return to work within 7-10 days postoperatively, and pain after surgery is well controlled with pain medication. My staff and I will counsel you regarding all aspects of your recovery. While the recovery process for nasal surgery is slower than many other cosmetic procedures, the results are long lasting and positive. The final results of rhinoplasty may not be apparent for six months or more.

I have a great deal of experience with all aspects of Rhinoplasty surgery, and comfortably possess the required expertise to allow me to achieve the best possible results for you.

If you are displeased with the shape of your nose, and it creates a sense of extreme self-consciousness, or difficulty breathing hampers your physical activity, causing physical symptoms, you may be a candidate for Rhinoplasty surgery. Give me a call today to discuss your case and schedule a consultation.

WHY WILL I BE SO SWOLLEN AFTER RHINOPLASTY SURGERY?

The blood supply to the nose is vast, therefore surgery causes the nose to swell. The good news is that extra blood supply allows the wounds to heal faster and with better scarring. The worst of the swelling after Rhinoplasty surgery goes away in 7-10 days. Ice right after surgery and for 1-2 days helps decrease the swelling a lot.

WHEN CAN I RETURN TO WORK AFTER RHINOPLASTY SURGERY?

While there is little pain after Rhinoplasty surgery, there is significant swelling. For that reason, many of my patients plan on taking 7-8 days off from work, or schedule it on a Friday, and use the weekend for part of the recovery.

I REALLY LIKE ACTOR ED BURNS NOSE, CAN YOU GIVE ME HIS NOSE AFTER RHINOPLASTY SURGERY?

Sorry, Ed Burns is already using his nose! Unfortunately it does not work that way. I will try to mold, sculpt and manipulate the nose you have, to look as good and be as functional as possible.

WHEN CAN I EXPECT TO REACH MY FINAL RESULT AFTER RHINOPLASTY SURGERY?

Within 4 weeks, my Rhinoplasty surgery patients notice a significant improvement. Most of the postoperative swelling is gone by 6 weeks, but 100% is usually gone after 6 months, achieving the final result.

WHEN IS THE EARLIEST MY SON OR DAUGHTER CAN UNDERGO RHINOPLASTY SURGERY?

Girls usually physically and mentally mature earlier than boys, therefore girls who have reached puberty and are 15-16 years old, are good candidates for Rhinoplasty surgery. Boys 16 and older do fine as well.
