What is breast augmentation?

Breast augmentation is a surgical procedure that increases the size and alters the shape of your breasts. Dr. Tornambe tailors the augmentation according to your body type and surgery goals. He uses saline or silicone implants that he places either above or below your chest muscles under your breasts.

Dr. Tornambe determines the best possible area of the incision to minimize scarring. He can make the incision:

  • Directly below your nipple
  • Within the crease below your breast
  • In your armpit area

Am I a good candidate for breast augmentation?

Dr. Tornambe can determine if you’re a good candidate for breast augmentation during your initial consultation. He reviews your overall health to ensure underlying medical issues don’t interfere with your recovery or results.

Additionally, Dr. Tornambe discusses your breast size goals and expectations. You may be a good candidate for an augmentation if you want to realistically increase your breast size to enhance your appearance, replace lost volume following a pregnancy or weight loss, or to rebalance the contour of your body.

What can I expect during a breast augmentation?

Dr. Tornambe performs the augmentation surgery in a state-of-the-art operative suite on the Upper East Side. He can administer either general anesthesia to put you into a deep sleep during the procedure for your comfort or a light sedation with a local anesthesia.

A board-certified anesthesiologist performs and monitors all sedation procedures throughout your surgery. Breast augmentation procedures generally take about two hours, and you will recover briefly under the care of a nurse before going home with a responsible driver.

How long does recovery from a breast augmentation take?

Dr. Tornambe strongly recommends you have someone to care for you at home for at least two nights. He prescribes medication to manage your pain following surgery and discusses your post-surgery limitations at the time of your consultation. Limitations typically include no heavy lifting or vigorous physical activity for four to six weeks.

In many cases, patients can return to work within one week of surgery, but recovery needs differ. Dr. Tornambe monitors your healing process and can recommend the best time to return to your usual activities.

You can expect swelling and bruising for several days following your surgery. Dr. Tornambe provides thorough after-care information to ensure you heal properly.
