Arm Lift Surgery or Brachioplasty is a way to reduce redundant skin and fat in the upper arms. As with other areas of the body, aging and gravity have negative effects on the upper arms. This is also an area where fat tends to deposit in women. Loose skin and excess fat in the upper arms can be addressed surgically with the Arm Lift Surgery. Younger women with relatively elastic skin and excess fat alone, may be candidates for liposuction of the upper arms only. I have been doing Arm Lift Surgery for over 20 years and I can determine which method is best for your situation so you can enjoy the best possible result.

ARM LIFT CONSULTATION

The consultation process (plan to spend at least one hour), includes an in-depth discussion about your desires with regard to shape and recovery from Arm Lift surgery. It is the surgeon’s task to explain all aspects of the operation, the pros and cons, and most importantly, the concept of realistic expectations with regard to your postoperative result. I prefer to meet a second time with each patient prior to surgery to assure complete understanding of the her desires from her Arm Lift surgery.

CANDIDATES FOR ARM LIFT SURGERY

If you have concerns about fatty deposits and excess skin around your arms, or your diet and exercise regimen helped you lose weight and tone your body everywhere but your upper arms, then Arm Lift Surgery is an excellent option for you.

Arm Lift Surgery can enhance your youthful appearance and improve your overall self-confidence and self-esteem. The best candidates for Arm Lift Surgery are healthy individuals who are realistic about what the surgery can afford after a complete consultation. The best results are usually achieved in patients who have plateaued to an ideal weight after diet and exercise.

BRACHIOPLASTY SURGERY

Arm Lift Surgery involves direct excision of redundant skin and fat within the upper arms, and liposuction may be used concurrently if needed. The operation takes 1-2 hours, under local anesthesia with sedation or if preferred, general anesthesia, administered by one of our board certified anesthesiologists.  Scarring can be an issue because of the necessary scar location within your upper arms, but I close the skin with great care and offer advice and support regarding scar care after surgery.

RECOVERING FROM ARM LIFT SURGERY

After surgery you will be discharged with an elastic garment to allow faster decrease of swelling and encourage skin contraction. I prefer that these garments be worn for at least 2 weeks after surgery.

The Arm Lift Surgery is performed in my state of the art, fully certified operative suite in my office located on the Upper East Side in NYC. Recovery after surgery takes 1-2 hours, with my RN at your side at all times. For your safety, I require that a friend, family member or private duty nurse accompany you home and spend at least one night with you. You will be given a followup appointment with me in 1-3 days.

Most of my patients return to work within 4-7 days postoperatively, and pain after surgery is well controlled with pain medication. My staff and I will counsel you regarding all aspects of scar care to achieve the best possible, least noticeable scars.

I have a great deal of experience with all aspects of Arm Lift Surgery, and comfortably possess the required expertise to allow me to achieve the best possible results for you. If you have redundant skin and/or fat in the upper arms and cannot lose them with diet and exercise, you may be a candidate for Liposuction Surgery.

WHY IS SCARRING SUCH AN ISSUE WITH ARM LIFT SURGERY?

Arm Lift Surgery does involve scarring. Arms sag because of fatty deposits, loss of volume with skin redundancy or loss of skin elasticity. In order to tighten and redefine the shape of the arms, the excess skin must be removed, or cut away, to allow adjustment of the contour. In order to remove redundant skin and tighten up the arms, longer incisions are required to do the job right. Solid scar care afterward improves scar quality.

HOW LONG DO THE RESULTS FROM ARM LIFT SURGERY LAST?

Various factors can affect the longevity of your result, including skin elasticity and extreme weight gain or loss. In general, with reasonable skin quality, stable weight, and modest diet and exercise, the result can be permanent or certainly long lasting.

WHY DO YOU RECOMMEND EXERCISE BEFORE ARM LIFT SURGERY?

It is important to try diet and exercise prior to Arm Lift Surgery because weight loss and toning of the muscles of the upper arm may obviate the need for surgery, or at least, contribute to a better result.

I HAVE HEARD ABOUT ARM LIFT SURGERY WITH MINIMAL OR NO SCARS, IS THAT AN OPTION?

There are several techniques that offer a smaller scar in the armpit. That particular technique is reserved for individuals with minimal redundant skin near the armpit. That technique is ineffective when redundant skin and fat is moderate or significant, as is the case in most patients requesting this surgery

HOW SOON CAN L WORK OUT AFTER ARM LIFT SURGERY?

I recommend no vigorous activity for 1-2 weeks after Arm Lift Surgery to allow your body to heal. After that, exercise can be started slowly and steadily.
